Australian Waler Genetics

I thought you might find this interesting. http://www.yarramalong.net/gene.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; So if ths is the case, you're true wild brumbies would be the same?

Honestly, most of what I read did not seem understandable to me. There are lots of sweeping statements that don't seem to have any basis in fact. There also seems to be a general misunderstanding of some basic concepts in genetics and breeding.

I only got one sentence into the 2nd paragraph before my head exploded. :hammer

edit: ok I will forgive her after seeing it was written when I was 1 year old

Oh I didn't read when it was written pmsl.
It didn't make any sense to me at the time either and I didn't really believe it.

Brumbies aren't wild, they are strictly Feral.
"Nature precludes inbreeding through natural herd behavior," er...no, it most certainly does not, there are at least five definite behaviour patterns in wild and feral horses......oh, I can't be bothered!!!! :booty

ROFL :rofl I agree, RF...I only ready to the 2nd paragraph and then jumped to the bottom where I noticed it was from 1988 (hubby and I were married in Jan. of that year so I know EXACTLY how long ago that was - :bounce )

I was talking to a lovely lady that breeds walers and she still believes this. I would think many would because it's on their website it must be the truth. Oh well if I register my mare with them, I might try and see if I can have a chat with someone on the commitee about their outdated information, then I'll send them this way

Well, I'm happy to say we can help, but their issue is bigger than color genetics - there are whole sweeping areas of genetics and breeding which are misunderstood.
