what do you think?

wondered if anyone interested in arabs wanted to comment on this, what do you think of her pedigree? I think she is mostly polish bred: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/gucci+phaedra

The pedigree appears pure Polish to me. Rumak was a very nice stallion, bred in Sweden I think, and Pilonia is from the "P" family line. Polish enthusiasts would be impressed. It's an old, very vintage pedigree.

rabbitsfizz Tue, 09/29/2009 - 13:20

Well, I am not necessarily a Polish enthusiast, although I do like a lot of them, but this has an incredibly strong line just a few generations back, and right across the board, too, not just here and there.
I would say this is a smaller, (by which I mean the correct height, not one of these "pseudo TB" jobbies :rofl )well put together, "performance" type horse, sound as a bell, or should be, and should also have a brain....do you know anymore?

I rode the mare for a while, she was mainly hacked but she was what I would call typey without being overly swan necked, over dished or too straight in the hind leg. She was VERY opinionated and always a fun ride, scarily bright but not exactly tractable. Didn't think much of jumping but loved to run. Taught me a lot, when I got her I knew everything about horses and ordered expecting to be obeyed, she soon absolved me of that fantasy but we got on pretty well once she had brought me down a peg or too. :rofl not too pleasant at the time though.

Did reasonably well in local shows, only realy marked down for her head set, she didn't soften very easily and got very strong in the arena.

I can post some pics but not for extensive public critique, I have permission to ask about her pedigree but not really about conformation and the pics aren't great for judging. A few comments would be ok with her owner but please don't rip her apart.

She looks to be a lovely mare :love ...actually, she is similar to a mare that mum bred, who I believe is half polish?? Except she is fleabitten, rather than 'white'.

lipigirl Wed, 09/30/2009 - 06:19

She's rather nice Lilly.....my first horse was a purebred arab mare - Chesnut with a blaze and socks - taught me how to stay on at speed amongst other things - wasnt terribly good for my confidence ;) but pretty all the same.

rabbitsfizz Wed, 09/30/2009 - 11:01

My first and my lat Arab was a bay, Polish bred mare and you just described her temperament!
Except Amira loved to jump....just not necessarily in the order you wished, or the specific jumps that you wished.
I remember Ruth rode her in a Working Hunter class at the County Show (what was she thinking?) once, and only once.
The three Judges started off standing in the ring and ended up hiding behind a show jump in the corner!
She did jump well, but she went at her own speed!
Best horse I ever owned!
She had a pedigree that was....interesting...not nearly as good as your mares, her only claim to fame was Grojec.
Your mare (yes I know she isn't "yours") is very pretty, I am not a Grey lover as I am too lazy (had quite a few Greys in my time!!) but they do look nice when clean, and she looks to be about what I thought she would be.
Has she been bred?

lillith Tue, 10/06/2009 - 05:07

Thanks for the nice comments, she belongs to a woman who has 4 arabs for fun, one endurance bred 15.3hh loon who was sweet natured but rather under diciplined and a bit nervous, a 14hh 'pony' type who was one of the nicest horses I have ever come across, would put anyone on her except for fear of what they might do to her, an absolute thug of a 4 yo similar in many ways to phae who I posted above and phae, the boss. I very much doubt any of them have been bred, she kept them for hacking and little fun shows, I suspect all of them where quite well bred in their own fields though. And they were all grey. Never again will I look after a grey, field kept, show horse. Arggggghhhh the green bits, the brown bits, the wtf is that bits.....

critterkeeper Tue, 10/06/2009 - 11:17

She is a lovely mare and would probably be a great dam to an outstanding foal (filly preferred - lol). I'm not into Arabs, but she does have an exceptionally nice pedigree with names even "I" can recognize - your friend should be very proud of this little lady.

Oh and greys are not the ONLY horses with those "wtf" bits - :BH all the "whites" and "lights" do - cremellos, perlinos, palis, etc. grrrrrr.

I was very interested to read this post. Please may I ask why you are posting messages about my horse? She has never been for sale and never will be and is certainly not available for breeding. If you wish to address any questions to me I am more than happy to answer them.

If I remember correctly you rode her a couple of times over one summer.

I would also like to point out that Emperzar has never been under disciplined, he is a very gentle horse and needs gentle handling.

And I presume the "thug" relates to Frosted Moon, who was indeed spirited, as most Arabs are, but was certainly never a thug and very easy to do and look after.

I love my horses to pieces, I have always loved Arabs and I have them because I love them. I couldn't care less whether they get shown or not, they never did well in our local shows and I only went to them for fun as I put a lot of hard work and training into the horses. Anyone who sees my horses say how exceptionally even-tempered they are and a pleasure to handle.

I am extremely proud of my horses and their pedigrees - as you state they are all extremely well bred and I knew what I was buying. I purchased Phaedra as a two year old. I have always admired Rumak and was saddened to hear of his demise.

Wow this is an old thread, sorry if I offended I was only posting my opinions.

I asked because I was interested in arab bloodlines and really liked Phae, I wanted to see what people thought of her as at the time I was hoping to be able to buy my own horse and was looking at something with similar breeding as I liked her so much.

I neither stated she was for sale nor stated she was for breeding nor asked for a critique I simply wanted to know more about her bloodlines and what people though of them.

It's okay Lillith, you're allowed to have opinions. I personally feel that other people's opinions are useful for learning since they bring to light things that you may have overlooked.

As for my opinion, I'm a fan of Polish Arabs, but the only one I rode extensively was super sweet, and kind, and caring, and actually worked hard to teach riders. I've never had a horse that would patiently wait until you got the cues right before acting - all of the others would listen for the instructor or watch the other horses. I miss that horse. :(

I don't usually Google Phae's details, but needed to find something out and your posts came up in my Google search!

You may not have stated she was for sale in this thread but my search revealed one from A Black Horse community which was as follows:-

"I am considering the posibility of buying an arab mare I used to loan and being new to arabians was wondering what people thought of her as a breeding prospect. She seems to have a lot of polish in her pedigree but her parents are relatively unknown. I wondered if anyone knew the horses or an half brothers/sisters.

Sire - Rumak, Grey arabian stallion, 1983, AHSB*17244

Dam - Pilonia, Grey arabian mare, 1985

The mare in question is Gucci Phaedra, Grey, 1994, AHSB*26713

I know there is more to a good horse than pedigree, she is sweet enough and I will try to post some pictures of her. She is a little fat and not the most exotic but pretty correct from what I remember."

It concerned me that somebody unknown was asking questions about her, and then I saw this forum and the photos and put two and two together!

I was not criticising your opinions but your comments about Emperzar and Frosted Moon were a little harsh, especially for somebody who was inexperienced with Arabs at the time.

She is a beautiful horse and I have never regretted buying her. If you are able to get similar bloodlines then you will have a wonderful horse. Did you ever manage to find one or are you still looking? Not sure where you are living now, but there is a stud in Penzance that has the Rumak line or you can get a closer relative from Michael Harris' stud, Combe Farm, in Gittisham.

lillith Thu, 05/19/2011 - 04:11

Sorry about the ablackhorse one, to be perfectly honest it was so long ago I had forgotten about it. Not sure why I mentioned wanting to buy her, probably because I did at the time though once I got a better idea of what she was worth decided that there wasn't a chance I could afford her even if you were willing to part with her, which was unlikely, so never asked you.

There is no way I can afford a horse now, moved away from home and had to pay rent and things. Thanks for the info though on where to get a similar model, I'll bear it in mind for the future.

This thread is over 2 years old. Whatever was said on Ablackhorse has no bearing here, and they have a strict policy about not taking any posts from their site for reposting. Take it to PM.
