My new foal Dusty

Forums

Well Heidi finally foaled 5 days late :) Welcome Dusty! She gave me a lovley buckskin colt, all I wanted was a filly, lol Still im quite smitten with him so may keep him as nice ridden gelding as his parents and siblings are quite lovley to ride :) He is by a buckskin QH & ASH stallion and out of a sabino chestnut QH mare. Its a pity he got hardly any white! All of this mares foals have had lots of chrome! Dusty ended up with 2 rear socks and thats it. ;)

Dustys dad is "Lazy D Rocks Golddigger" He is AQHA & also dual reg Stock horse.
He has just turned 3yrs old and is 15.2hh. just broken in and goin well, giving him a little cattle work and seems he loves it!
Owners are goin to campaign him in cutting and camp drafting :)

dakotakdq Fri, 09/25/2009 - 18:34

do you guys think he will be same colour as dad or darker? he has very dark ears and the tops of his eye lids are darkish.

critterkeeper Fri, 09/25/2009 - 19:11

He may not be exactly like his dad, but he shouldn't be too far off the mark...he will be a handsome fella what ever shade he turns out to be. ;)

They're Brahmans:

Great cattle. Very attractive IMO. All the ones I've known have had great attitudes too. I used to ride a Brahman bull that was broke. I rode him all over the farm bareback with a halter. :rofl

They also come in LOTS of pretty colors.

I despise brahmas. We had a bull on our cows at one point and he was rank. He'd charge the fence if anyone got near it. He was horrid. We got one batch of heiffers out of him which we retained and sold him off quick. Of those heiffers, 90% were horrid!
Our show cows last year were brangus, and they were DISASTERS. I mean absolutely unmanagable at points.
However, glenn maintains that they are the best cows ever.

Hubby doesn't like Brahmas either...it was a Brahma bull that turned him into the centre portion of a bull-n-metal chute sandwich, breaking his back. Apparently the cracking sound was so loud it ricocheted around the whole arena.

wow thats terrible! that would be a horrible sound to hear!

makes me glad my friends cattle are used to ppl and horses and are generally (apart from a few of course) good to do anything with

Morgan Tue, 09/29/2009 - 13:54

I've seen brahmas go both ways. I've met some that were super gentle (pets that would try follow you in the house) and then some of the meanest bucking bulls seem to be brahmas or brahma cross. :? Maybe its just the individual lines, we had a small herd of angus and black baldies and they varied everything from eat out of your hand to absolutely bonkers.

Yea Brahmas can be mean, esp. those that aren't handled a lot and socialized as calves. It was a Brahma cross that ended Matts rodeo career (if you can really consider rodeo a career).

NZ Appaloosas Sat, 10/03/2009 - 17:21

Sounds like Matt and hubby have a lot in common (including this crazy idea that rodeo could have been a career! LOL)

Hes too pretty to be a boy! lol

I have been offered some seriously good money for him, im tempted to sell, but I dont really want to. :( The 2 ppl would give him great homes and he would be campaigned, one is a barrel racer and one is a reiner. Dont know what to do :(
