This is a TBC of this thread http://forum.equine-color.info/viewtopi…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
These horses have a full sibling that AQHA had pulled briefly due to having appy chara....I am still going to get over to see the appy colt in question and his mother but for the time being I thought it would be intresting to see the full siblings and what they might have or NOT have ..the 4 yr old is suspicious, her face too , dosent show in pics is odd roaning. The 3 yr old colt dosent appear to have anything Id say hummm about.
Re: As I promise..I got to see some of the APPY/AQHA horses
I honestly fail to see how sclera is an Appy characteristic exclusively.
Same with striped feet.
Can mean LOADS of things.
We had a Hackney horse standing at stud in my area when I was a kid and he threw those "sloe eyes" and it was the shape that caused the sclera, no Appy/spotted blood whatsoever.
Re: As I promise..I got to see some of the APPY/AQHA horses
If you are talking about colt 1 then yea I can see it on one of its front feet. The characteristics might be daft and could mean nothing, but its very possible that it means that all or some of these horses are Lp carriers, fully capable of producing more 'cropouts' if bred to a PATN carrier. So that alone could mean that someone wouldn't want these if breeding QH's or they could be wanted for an appy breeder.
Re: As I promise..I got to see some of the APPY/AQHA horses
I think they are all Lp carriers. If I remember right, Leo started out with little white spots and then it just grew and grew to the varnish he has today. The oldest mares face looks awfully light/white to not be varnishing. I want to see what she looks like in a few years.
Re: As I promise..I got to see some of the APPY/AQHA horses
The 4 5 yr old mare looked very suspicious, especially looking at her face, it made me go "hummmm" her forehead had some odd roaning to it, the colt in the first pics had clay on his feet and dont recall his feet loooking wierd in person. I think I have some more pics of him, maybe with a foot raised up..
Re: As I promise..I got to see some of the APPY/AQHA horses
I didnt see much that screamed appy to me other other then the 4/5 yr old mare, but I took all the pics since they are full siblings of the registered AQHA that had his stuff pulled briefly till they did DNA , it was a hoopla , but Im still suppose to get over to see the yearling in question eventually and his mother that is why I took pics of the 3 full siblings to have to compare..
Re: As I promise..I got to see some of the APPY/AQHA horses
I don't see anything that screams appy either.
I see the red clay on the feet.
I don't believe striped hooves are clear examples of appy.
My gray mare was born a liver (prettiest chocolate color) chestnut with no ounce of white, but had white on her hooves...striped as she got older.
See you can see the white/striped feet, but she was a solid liver chestnut, no white at all.
Does that not strike you as a trifle daft???
Nope, there's no Lp test yet. Of course, we could go back to pre-1983 when a horse like Bubba would have been thrown to the curb as "useless" as he has nothing to show he's an appaloosa, other than his pedigree (and he's out of a full leopard by a blanket+roan). I got more colour from breeding the blanket+roan to the solid mare. And breeding app x app produces about 2/3rds of all the solids registered in ApHC, and solids are about 1/3rd of the registry. So do we throw away 1/3rd of all app foals?

Did anyone else notice that the colt had striped hooves on his dark legs? (no white)? :-?
The 3yo in the first photos above? I'd like to see some photos of his feet not buried in grass...but I do see what you're pointing out, CK.

OK so...I fianlly got a glimps of the AQHA colt with spots!!! Thanks to

This is the mother/dam of all the horses in the pics here and suppose to be full or half siblings there is some confusion on that but they are both AQHA papers parents. He is AWESOME!!! What a little gem!

Is the 4 yo the one that looks to be going gray? none of them look appy to me (and I used to raise appys) half of my QH's have sclera most have striped hoofs and odd roan spots or bird catcher spots. I just dont see anything that says appy to me.
