What would you say?

No fair having to guess on a mini foal without knowing parents' colors! In addition to CheyAut's guesses I throw in black and silver black.

accphotography Tue, 07/07/2009 - 22:27

Well the sire is black silver tobiano (no cream, no agouti, hetero silver). The dam is supposedly a grulla (haven't seen proof with my own eyes so can't say either way) who is definitely Ee and is presumed aa. There is a chance the dam carries cream.

We don't know what the foal is yet but she is testing.

accphotography Tue, 07/07/2009 - 22:43

She sure looks red to me. But her forehead is weird. I dunno. Owner says she is SUUUPER light/white underneath.

Heidi Tue, 07/07/2009 - 23:12

The first thing that popped into my head, well, besides "ice cream", was Grulla.
I think I'll go get some dessert.... *sing-song: What would you dooo-OOO-ooo, for a Klondike bar?

accphotography Tue, 07/07/2009 - 23:48

Heidi now YOU snap out of it!!! :rofl

Hmmm. Grulla. VERY, VERY interesting theory. One I happen to like at the moment. I will be asking about a dorsal pronto.

Sara Wed, 07/08/2009 - 00:33

Oh no fair! I was thinking of grulla (grullo if you're RF) but thought that was the obvious answer so I didn't say it! Need a pouty smiley...

Heidi Wed, 07/08/2009 - 01:01

No pouting! I'll share.

Oh, and ACC, I'm good. No, wait, I meant the ice cream was good. Ice cream can snap a person out of almost anything. Bathing suits are most common, but ice cream is good for snapping peeps out of funks, too. Looove Dairy Queen runs!

CheyAut Wed, 07/08/2009 - 01:09

It's 11pm and I'm only 2 hours into my 10 hour work shift, and now you have me craving ice cream. NOT FAIR!

Heidi Wed, 07/08/2009 - 10:13

I really don't see red on that foal. Are there red foals born who don't *look* red? Are mini's really that odd/confusing with their color?

slaneyrose Wed, 07/08/2009 - 20:03

I have seen that colour before on a silver black....plus, because of the white eyelashes I would say its silver black! :HB

critterkeeper Wed, 07/08/2009 - 20:15

Okay - you ladies can guess away all you want about what the foal is, but I have the answer - adorable... :laugh1

:-h Wow, first let me compliment the admin on all your smilies ^:)^ I really like smilies  I have heard mention of this site several times on several boards that I frequent so thought I'd mosey on over and say hello. Color genetics is a fascinating topic and when we were breeding a never ending source of amazement at what can come out of two horses :o . I thought I would share a picture of our latest (and last) colt, born July 5th. I think he's a dun sabino... what do you think? That dam is a dun and the sire a buckskin overo/sabino. Here's Jack Frost....

zenjane Thu, 07/09/2009 - 06:34

I might be double posting as I'm a :newbie here and not quite sure what I'm doing so I'll try posting another picture and then check back later to see what's on here and what isn't :geek: This is a American Heritage Horse (aka Colonial Spanish or Spanish Mustang or Spanish Barb) foaled July 5th. I think he's a dun sabino, dam is a dun and the sire is a buckskin overo/sabino

Monsterpony Thu, 07/09/2009 - 09:30

Welcome to the forum! Your boy is very cute! I won't hazard a guess in foal coat, but his white does look sabino + splash to me.

Heidi Thu, 07/09/2009 - 10:21
This look more red to you Heidi?
[img]http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j221/…]
No, it doesn't, it looks just like the 1st one. I keep clicking back/forth and don't see any difference at all, but I know there *must* be for you to have posted the pic.
...so I'm going to put the 1st pic here, too...for comparison. Maybe I'll be able to see that one *is* red with them right next to each other.
Possibility, also, of my monitor showing the colors as slightly different?
Anyhow, both pics together in one post so I can see a difference...

Heidi Thu, 07/09/2009 - 10:23

Wow! They look almost *exactly* the same! I can barely see a hint of red in the example-pic you posted for me... Barely! The foal has the faintest, slightly pink tinge...otherwise both foals look the same to me. Wow.

accphotography Thu, 07/09/2009 - 14:18

Hmmm I think the foal looks more chocolatey in the first pic and more pinkish in the 2nd. Maybe it's MY monitor. :laugh1

I think the difference may be the quality of the picture, and not really the color.

The first picture is slightly blurry, and the second picture is sharp, so it makes the picture come off a little different.
