Re: Khaos
anytime that you have high fever and swollen legs and normal white cell count, i have flash backs of my palominos experience, call me paranoid ..take his temp daily for a while, dont let your guard down, if he did get what my guy had you can shut it down quicker then I did as it took us 2 weeks to figure out what he had.
Re: Khaos
Purpura Hemmoragica... not sure if its possible for your guy, but its not as uncommon as I have met several other folks that had experienced it over the last few years too. Just be on alert if it is , you have to shut his immune system down and let him "reboot" like a computer lol ... its a rough road, but I did it and I know how to make it happen again, there are milder cases then the way my horse got and horses that seem to recover easier, but it really kicked my horses behind and he lost alot of skin on his legs ect ...he also sunk a little ( founder) but recovered... The temp has to be controled, you knw any time they run a temp you run the risk of founder and keeping that at bay is soooo important to a better recovery no matter what it is..
Re: Khaos
This was how it started, he was little off one day just mooopy....I turned him out that night and the next day he has swollen legs and wasnt hungry, just picked at his food, I took his temp it was 104 vet came out and gave him bute banamine and did blood work, i ice him, came back basically normal, no white count alarms but i forget the rest of the blood work there was some stuff that was margioanly off and if im not mistaken it was similar to yours.. muscle something was elevated.. we then went to small dose of Dexamethsone and lasix and still ice, and bute once a day ....he was holding on but it wasnt going aways 100% and everytime we backed off he blew up even worse, then colsulted fianlly with peternson and smith in ocala and another vet and it was decided that it was Purpura ..he was then started on 60cc of Dex then next day 50cc and so on...he was put on 2 types of antibotics ( Penn*inj* and genotcin) to cover all ways that he might get exposed to infection as the dex shuts the immune system down ... we did a few other things but it was tough.
