Anyone want to buy me a horse?

I have been riding as often as possible with a friend of mine that moved her herd about 45 minutes away from. She is a trainer and I have been going out and helping her with the horses she is working with, which has meant a lot of hours in the saddle and on trails with green horses; it has been a blast. But a couple weeks ago, a friend of hers sent her a TW that she wants my friend to sell for her because she can't stand to sell him herself. The horse, Smokes, is totally broke and doesn't any much training, but my friend has been letting me ride him as the experienced horse when she is riding a greenie so I have been having a blast with him (I love gaited horses :D ). Just last weekend, we went on a four hour ride in the Idaho backcountry straight through the dense forest in the middle of rainstorm and through marshlands while being trailed by a pack of coyotes...it was awesome! My legs were black and blue from hitting branches since it took Smokes about 2 hours to figure out that he could walk through really dense branches between trees rather than run through them, but he did awesome. His running walk is super comfortable and his canter is the definition of rocking horse. On another trail ride, when we were working on speed work with another greenie, I got him into a full out gallop and, not only could he haul @$$, but he will stop on the dime with just sitting back and a slight touch of a snaffle bit (so there to all those strange gaited horse owners that feel that the only way to get a good gait is with one of those nasty uber shanked bits). I want him soooooo bad! My friend agrees that he is a good match for me and could probably get the priced dropped a bit for me, but I just don't have the time or money to keep him even if I came up with the purchase price. *pout* Here is his Dreamhorse ad: http://www.dreamhorse.com/show_horse.php?form_horse_id=1421308&share_th…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It is just wishful thinking. I don't know where I will be a year from now, though likely across the country and then the year after that is a complete mystery so I really can't get a horse. Plus, I have no money at all and won't have for a long time.

He does sound like a wonderful animal...I'm sorry you can't get him. :sad But...maybe, just maybe, you could find one like him in a few years when you can afford one. :sad

(P.S. you can get them here that do all that for like 1/6-1/4 the price). :flower

I wish you couldn't. :( Around here anyway, it used to be that you could not get anything sound and rideable for under $2,000. I'd love to see it get back there. Training costs money whether you do it yourself or send them out. If trained horses only sell for less than it cost to send them to the trainer, no one will bother training their low-quality stock any more and things will only get worse.

Isn't it crazy how much prices have dropped. Smokes doesn't have a perfect gait (he needs more work on it, but he is decent), but I haven't seen Walkers with such low prices around here. Especially for a young, sound, completely broke, been-there, done-that attitude type of a horse. I have been using him for rides with the green horses because he doesn't freak about anything, not deer, cattle, dogs, even being trailed by coyotes didn't phase him. He is going for a lot less than he is worth. I'd take him in a heartbeat if I could, but alas, I am poor. I just found out that I have to pay $650 to just sign up to take the national board exam...plus WA state licensing, plus test facility fees...*sigh*

Here is his pedigree: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/hi+ho+s…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Anyone recognize any lines?

OMG - YES, I recogonise a lot of those names. My own top bred TWH shared several of those names (Midnight Sun and any of the Allen line would get you top dollar for just about any TW - even here). Of course a similar pedigree here would go for about $800-$1k (significantly more than the similiar bred ones that I got free)
