Re: chestnut with black mane and tail
I'd say it's not SUPER common but not rare, either. I've seen a few. Peanut (Tickle x Cory from last year) is getting a chocolate brown mane and a flaxen tail. I'll take photos if he EVER decides to shed this summer! He's the last one holding on to hair and there is no way I can clip him... little terror...
Re: chestnut with black mane and tail
Yeah, the one I knew with coloring like this was also a Thoroughbred. The stable manager had him down on his paperwork as bay when he first came in and I corrected her. My money is still on chestnut with this one as well although I agree that bays can have reddish manes and tails on occasion.
Re: chestnut with black mane and tail
Do you mean like this? This is my mare Poco Smokey Valley - "Valley"...as you can see her mane is BLACK - not a drop of red showing and her tail is the same. She DNA tests as ee/Aa so she is definitely chestnut.
Re: chestnut with black mane and tail
Looks like a chestnut with a dark mane and tail, not that uncommon really.
