"White" Haflinger

I always thought this haffy was neat. Pics are swiped from her owners photobucket and I have talked to the owner a long time ago about her and I have some info:
Lacey's registered name (before the AHR voided her papers at her 1st b-day due to her white color) is Cam's Snow White VV. Barn Name is Lacey because her eyelashes are long, white and well.. lacey, lol. Her sire is Neiman Marcus TOF and her dam is named Cambridge.
sire [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/Erinof1973/Horses/AHR20Liberty20…] dam [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/Erinof1973/Horses/Laceysdam.jpg[…] and they made this: [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/Erinof1973/Horses/24March2009001…] [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/Erinof1973/Horses/25Apr2009024-c…] [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/Erinof1973/Horses/24March2009004…] links to udder and vulva shots http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/Erinof1973/Horses/24March2009005…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/Erinof1973/Horses/24March2009002…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; white foal isn't a pure haffy, she bred the mare to a max. white TWH I believe(it's been a few years since I chatted with her) just think the mare is pretty neat...have never seen a mostly white haffy like this before and I stumbled across the photobucket acct I had saved to show someone else years ago and figured I'd post it on here too..lol

ERMMMM....can I say fence jumper !!! - have they DNA's her with her parents because she is looking awfully like either a max sabino or an few spot appy to me.

TheRedHayflinger Fri, 06/26/2009 - 12:49

was looking for my old e mails but didn't save most of them. I do believe she was DNA'd to belonging to that sire and dam. AHR pulled her papers due to her color only as a yearling.

accphotography Fri, 06/26/2009 - 12:54

My jaw just hit the FLOOR. :o That's an Appy if I've ever seen one. But darned if her face doesn't show it. But white without pink skin and that kind of mottling? APP!!!

TheRedHayflinger Fri, 06/26/2009 - 12:57

i was told her skin was pink except for some spots around the vulva and udders and around her eyes.

TheRedHayflinger Fri, 06/26/2009 - 12:59

also--i do still have her owners e mail address in my contacts list if anyone would like to contact her themselves?

Morgan Fri, 06/26/2009 - 13:07

well some of them leave hats and things like a sabino and if this is a new mutation it may well have its own rules.

accphotography Fri, 06/26/2009 - 13:10

Either way, she needs to be sent to UC Davis, Cornell and U of KY. Cornell especially (Samantha Brooks heads up the dominant white research... or did at the last publishing).

Jordie0587 Sat, 06/27/2009 - 02:17

Is it odd that the first thing I saw on the vulva shot was the creepy person hand? Flexi fingers wig me out! haha

She's definitely neat!

peruvianpasogal Sat, 06/27/2009 - 21:02

If sabino is in the breed why would it be so far fetched for her to be a max sabino, that would explain the "appy" mottleing appearence and on my monitor I see what I would call sabino roaning. My friend has a bay sabino TWH/paso that is light pink and white from sabino with mottled skin.

accphotography Sat, 06/27/2009 - 23:01

I've never seen sabino cause THAT type of marbling.

Man I wish there was an LP test.

CMhorses Sat, 06/27/2009 - 23:56

What if she has the skin depigmentation thing that Bida has? Couldn't that cause the spots? or is that too strange to be a possibility.

That was my initial thought--max sabino. I'm not seeing "fewspot' or any sort of "appy" in her.

If you compare this mare to the pictures on the ApHC website (http://www.appaloosa.com/registration/i…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, scroll down to mottled skin), you can see the difference. On apps, it's more of pink places on dark skin, this haflinger looks more dark spots on pink skin...like pumpkin skin. I tried finding some photos of pumpkin skin on the net, but not coming up with anything...

You have a point there... but what does it look like on a horse who was patterned in that area as opposed to solid (in that particular area)?

accphotography Sun, 06/28/2009 - 22:52

Hmmm interesting. That helps. Wonder what a fewspot's looks like (not that she could be one... right?).

accphotography Sun, 06/28/2009 - 23:29

That's pretty typical of palomino skin actually. Every palomino I've ever seen in person had that type of mottling.
