I hear about splash "fighting" with tobiano for dominance over markings...does the same thing go on when it is pinto/appy?

When I was working for a farm in the 90s we had a large pony like that on the local hunter circuit called "circles in the sand".

From what I understand, yes it can, and it can end up looking very messy (translation: ugly, at least IMO). I would say that this horse has the varnish roan thing going on courtesy of Lp, barring, of course, anything else being in the mix (non-app roan, grey, whatever). Without knowing the sire's pattern, hard to say what might have been inherited.

Interesting color! I actually like some combinations of tobiano + LP. Arock has some some Spanish Mustang foals that are just stunning!
