Dam is standing behind her, b/w Spotted Saddle Horse. Sire was an Appy colt owners(?), pasture managers(?) thought was too youmg to breed.

From what I understand, yes it can, and it can end up looking very messy (translation: ugly, at least IMO). I would say that this horse has the varnish roan thing going on courtesy of Lp, barring, of course, anything else being in the mix (non-app roan, grey, whatever). Without knowing the sire's pattern, hard to say what might have been inherited.
