Markings

Re: Markings
Rowdy only expressed on patterned mares, when bred to solids he tended to throw his own markings, and since no-one was testing then we have no way of knowing if they had Frame except when they have tested grand children.
It was John Gaza who started them (and me for that matter!!) off on the Pinto route, it had never occurred to me before that Rowdy was a Pinto, and I had no idea what Frame was in minimal, I had only seen it in Films of cowboys!!!
I am not sure John knew Rowdy was Frame, either....
A friend of mine has a minimal Tobiano, just two white socks behind, and he throws solid or minimal to solid mares and "ordinary" markings to loud mares, so it does seem to tone the pattern down.
Re: Markings
Thanks for that info.
Here are the links to the miniature I mentioned that was marked more loudly then the parents

Re: Markings
It all makes sense and anything is possible. That being said, minimal x minimal tends to throw minimal, maximal x maximal tends to throw maximal, and the minimal x maximal tend to throw medium. The effect can also be cumulative, so for instance if you're breeding similar white markings together, the resulting foals tend to have more and more white. Of course, that is true of any trait you breed for.
