Re: grullo with dapples?
I live in BC Canada.. Yup, she does have reddish colored winter hair over her legs, which sheds out, and she gets more like chocolate points, not black. Int he summer she looks like this horse for color at grullablue

Re: grullo with dapples?
I just wanted to share something odd...
My dun mare shed her wintercoat this spring, and I had noticed during the last bit of her shedding that along her upper back she was shedding in a DAPPLE pattern. The thin band of hair that visibly seperates the rounded dapples from each other, was the last hair to be 'let go' and it looked like she had inch-long hair surrounding the dapple patches.
*very sorry, but I took no photos of the phenomenon* I thought it looked hideous; very ratty-looking, so I left the camera in the house until she finished shedding.
Re: grullo with dapples?
heh, that's cool Heidi. I have noticed that different color hairs will grow to different lengths and thickness and shed out at different times. My tobianos shed the white on the neck first, then the color. :?: I am so happy with spring, the poof is almost gone, just some hairy bellies left (except for Chase who allways sheds a month after everyone else. :BH )
Re: grullo with dapples?
She could most definitely be cream as her maternal grandsire is registered as a buckskin.
ETA: I am EXTREMELY jealous of you having one of their horses. When I first started looking, I went to their site an was going to buy from them but they ended up closing down. Do you know the story there? I almost cried I wanted one of their babies so bad.

Is there ANY chance she has silver? Is this just something grullas sometime have? The horse you posted the link to REALLY looks like she could be silver too. How strange.
Re: grullo with dapples?
Unfortunatley, I am new to this whole Genetic thing.. So still learning lots! ALTHOUGH, on the grullablue site, it does say when they are light like mine (referred to as Silver grullo), that there is a good chance they carry the creme gene.. I will just have to test her to find out! lol Does one parent have to be a pally or buckskin or dilute of some kind in order to carry cream? So confusing!
I am going to run outside and get pics right now in the sunlight....
Re: grullo with dapples?
IME cream really doesn't lighten the grulla coat very much at all. I think it's merely coincidence. Now when I say silver, I don't mean the shade, I mean the silver gene. Red legs on a black based horse is one common indication of silver. The mane of the horse you posted the link to is suspicious as well. It could just be frosting, but coupled with the red legs, it's interesting.

Okay, here we go, I got lots of good Dun factor pics for fun: but here is a foal pic:

Now, with both parents being grullo, is it even POSSIBLE for her to carry cream? or is it "creme"..
Heres the neat dun factor pics:
Oh, one more thing: After reading grullablue site, I am under the impression that she coined the term "silver grulla" to distinquish the lighter ones from the "slate" grulla but is not really a "recognized" term?
