finally! (Myrewyn Sweet Solo's thread)

I have a bay colt, little crooked blaze, two hind socks. Isabelle is a bitch. Finally got him nursing a bit ago. I wish he would go down and sleep.

I'll get new pics as soon as I can let them out. It's been so rainy and windy they have not yet left the foaling stall. Any new pics would look just like the old ones!

Sara Wed, 05/06/2009 - 13:15

Oh my, we had a scare this morning! I was mucking their stall while they munched breakfast... well, while Isabelle munched breakfast anyway because she won't let Solo share her food. I'll have to set up a creep feeder for him. I've never had to do that before because I've always had nice mares. Mares who share. Geesh, Isabelle! Anyway, I had the door blocked with the wheelbarrow but Solo squeezed out in the few inches between the wheelbarrow and the door and started heading down the aisle. (Living up to his name?) The best thing seemed to be to roll away the wheelbarrow so that Belle wouldn't panic and try to run past it or jump it and possibly injure herself. I figured I'd let her out into the aisle, she'd run to Solo, I'd halter her and lead her back in and Solo would follow.

Instead, Isabelle ran right to Cory's stall and started throwing a total tantrum right in front of it. Tantrums are sexy so Cory was rearing and screaming in his stall and Belle was kicking and biting with such speed and fury that I couldn't get in there to halter her. Meanwhile poor Solo was barely managing to avoid his own dam's hooves and teeth. I realized (after a couple seconds which felt like an eternity) that the best way to fix it was probably to remove Cory from the situation so I hollered at him and whipped Belle's lead at him to chase him out into his paddock, at which time Belle calmed down and I was able to halter her and get her and Solo back in their stall.

Heh, this breeding thing is going to age me prematurely.

I am so glad it all worked out for you - but man that could have be a major disaster... :o  That is what I went through with Akina and Destiny, which is why I had all the other horses moved out so she could have the run of the place by herself (but of course you can't do that). :)

As for the breeding thing make you grey before your time -- join the club.... :laugh1

nerd Wed, 05/06/2009 - 16:37

Looks like Mom had some choice words for Dad... :laugh1
Glad everyone made it out OK

Sara Wed, 05/06/2009 - 16:44

I know! I try to keep my barn and my babies as safe as can be but even though everyone was separated by sturdy stall walls and doors it was a dangerous situation. Little Solo is being protected somehow because this is the second time he's been on the danger end of his mom!

Andrea Wed, 05/06/2009 - 19:34

How scarey! Poor little guy is gonna grow up tuff! Stupid ponies! :D
Just out of curiousity, is she likely to be a better mom next time around, or are you going to chance it?

Indeed. I haven't seen hide nor hair of my horses since...April sometime...It's been like a month! They are at home getting fat and sassy, and I'm stuck here studying. So I'm living vicariously through yall for the time being. I need ponies for my sanity.

critterkeeper Thu, 05/07/2009 - 08:43

Krickette - you need ponies for your sanity or insanity? :-\ We all know we're horse crazy (literally)... :laugh1

Sara Thu, 05/07/2009 - 16:03

Well, the weather forecast for the afternoon calls for "sunbreaks" which we Pacific Northwesterners all live for. If the sun peeks out long enough I'll let Belle and Solo out into the world for the first time ever and try to snap some pics.

He's gonna get his socks muddy. :(

critterkeeper Thu, 05/07/2009 - 16:29

We have sunshine today too - but the afternoon thunderstorms are firing up now...just what I didn't need. :sad :hammer

Andrea Thu, 05/07/2009 - 17:41

Little known fact... But did you know ponies and horses are waterproof? :laugh1 :rofl
LOL. I totally loved watching Ditto run around in the rain last week! She loved it!

Solo tried some zoomies:

Isabelle did not approve so she put him back in the stall:

I pushed them back out for a little more sunshine and fresh air:

Belle had enough of the zoomies and gathered him back under her where she likes to keep him. Look closely between her back legs:

I mean, she REALLY keeps him under her belly:

Oh and Andrea, you may not know this, living in the hot paradise that is Southern California, but when it rains here it is COLD. ;) 40's and rainy is not good for the little ones. He was even shivering in his stall!

Monsterpony Thu, 05/07/2009 - 19:46

Sooooo cute! I love that he fits under Isabelle.

NZ Appaloosas Thu, 05/07/2009 - 19:50

He looks a little dejected about being stuck under mum! :laugh1

PamelaTX Thu, 05/07/2009 - 20:14

Oh thanks Sara!!

He's so CUTE & tiny!!!! :love

He won't be able to fit up under mom for much longer!!

Paintlover Thu, 05/07/2009 - 21:14

He is so cute!!!! Thanks for the new pictures!! :bounce

vneerland Thu, 05/07/2009 - 21:21

It is probably because of your 'mother of the year' (not) stories, but Isabelle looks so annoyed with him. :laugh1 Poor child. ;)

Sara Thu, 05/07/2009 - 21:29

I think it's funny that my worst dam initially has turned into the strictest and most protective. Poor thing wasn't allowed to get more than a few feet away from her! But yes, she does look annoyed!

Andrea Thu, 05/07/2009 - 21:40

Yeah, I tend to forget other places get cold! Gotta love California!
He's tiny! Well compared to mom anyway. It's funny she is so clingy to him. Silo gave up trying to keep up with Ditto after the first turn out. So maybe Belle will lighten up soon!

Sara Thu, 05/07/2009 - 23:47

Forget the short leash -- Belle's got Solo on a bungee!

Krickette Fri, 05/08/2009 - 09:50

Dawwwwwwww!!!! Amazing pics, really! I know what I'm doing this summer, lol. And its been rainy here, but all its doing for us is keeping the 100% humidity blanket on top of our 95 degree days. I mean, this morning I had a paper in my hand, when I got to the class it was wilted... I could have wrung it out.
He's amazing. Do want.
Give corey a pat on the back for me

Andrea Tue, 05/12/2009 - 17:02

I think it's time for new pictures...
Has it stopped raining yet???? :sad

Sara Tue, 05/12/2009 - 18:50

It rains a little almost every day but I've been leaving their door open to the paddock so they can pick where they want to be. I close it at night because I would hate to come down one morning to find he had slipped under the fence and Isabelle has taken down the barn and killed everyone to get to him.

If I'd had a camera on me yesterday I would have taken photos of them being very, very naughty. They blew past me when I went in to clean their stall and ran madly around the property for about twenty minutes. It was pretty to see them running but soooooo bad. There is a fence I'm in the process of taking down so it's not exactly horse safe at the moment and they were over by it nearly giving me a heart attack. Why do I breed horses again??

Andrea Wed, 05/13/2009 - 09:43

LOL. It's OK. I switched the water barrel I was using because Ditto likes to jump up and get her feet wet! I could just see her jumping in the darn thing and drowning!
So now she's got a trough and she does go swimming regularly! :laugh1
