Color vs. pattern (brindle)

OK, this is a goofy one.... Sponenberg refers to brindle as a color, and yet it seems to me it would be a pattern, not a color. ?

Well its depends...if its genetically brindle I would call it a pattern.

If its a chimeric brindle than I would call it a color. I would call it a color if its chimeric because its an actual color causing the pattern. Kind of like how we don't call black + agouti a pattern.

Very interesting, RiddleMeThis! I see just what you're saying.

It reads a bit 'off' to write something like, "Her brindle color is unusually compelling" (although "pattern" would fit well). As such, I shall think of how to tap my way around that noose.

Thanks!
