"Color Blind" ... a poem

AWESOME poem I found at HorseCity and wanted to share:
Back in ancient history, when I was heavy into trading horses, someone would call and want to sell a Pinto mare. I'd go for a look-see and find a solid colored horse. They'd explain that she was "Breeding Stock Only." So, in self defense, I wrote a poem and called it Color Blind. COLOR BLIND She said, "You don't know horses, do ya mister" I said,"Only those I've owned and bought and sold, That number in the hundreds, little sister, But hey, I'm only fifty-nine years old." "Well," she said, "You called my mare a buckskin, And I'm here to tell you surely that she ain't. You see, I've got her papers here to show you. See, (if you can read) my mare's a paint." Lately I'm surprised - what I've got into And how I've sorta let myself go wrong. My neighbor's solid bay mare is a Pinto. Her papers say so, so I'll play along. A friend of mine told me he'd bought an Appy. He looked like solid black, but I don't mind. And I'll agree, if that will make him happy 'cause I don't care, and friends are hard to find. Now, some folks that I know will study bloodlines To upgrade stock or just avoid a quirk, And guys that I've admired had just two questions "Is that horse sound?" and "Can he do the work?" Why, one old ropin' horse I knew lacked papers, But won some trophy saddles along the way, And picked up broncs from here to Oklahoma, And Kenny's friends still talk about "Old Gray." I've traveled east and west and to the borders And my opinion might be a mistake, But the usin' types I've seen trace back to Quarters. The color's just the frosting on the cake. I guess I need a short course in genetics. I'm under-educated, that's a fact, But this color-breed stuff's got me all frenetic. My wife says I could surely use more tact. At one time you could tell a horse's color At just a glance from near a quarter-mile. But keep your mouth closed 'til you see his papers, But wait...... a fleeting thought just made me smile. See, I bought this little buckskin at the auction. His dam's a mustang, sire's Paso Fino, And he has a lot of white hairs running through his mane and tail. Could he be a Disappointed Palomino?
