Chestnut or bay colt?

The owner says this colt is chestnut, but I think he's really a bay. What do you guys think? I think he looks red.
His foal pic, it could have gone either way because of his white leg markings and dark-ish mane/tail.
His older foal pic, I thought his body color looked more red, than bay. Photo was not clear enough for me to determine mane color and his tail was not visible.
His yearling pic, while his mane/forelock look dark-ish, his tail is very pale, and coupled with his body color...everything is just saying "red" to me.

I vote wild-type bay...is that still a color? wait, I'm so behind...let me check reference section.

the pics are so tiny....
does he have any tips on his ears or anything at all? I guess wild bay, but id like to see a headshot too...
is it me or does his mane look silvery in some pictures? it might be my monitor....

Okay - I blew up the yearling pix to 200% and there are definitely black tipped ears -- hence my vote is for BAY (albiet wild bay). And, please, tell this owner to quit guessing and use...

I back tracked the pictures to her photobucket, and here's a good shot of him: http://s289.photobucket.com/albums/ll21…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and a baby photo: http://s289.photobucket.com/albums/ll21…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The first picture is debatable, but the newborn shot is most definitely chestnut!

I have a picture somewhere of a buckskin who was born looking COMPLETELY palomino, but really wasnt. Give me a little bit to find it and then Ill post it.

That foal picture doesnt sway me from thinking the horse is bay.

I would still like to see the results of a genetic test, but the foal photo makes me wonder.

I visited the breeder of my wild bay mare and she said, "oh yeah, that's the one that was born chestnut and turned bay" so it's possible for them to look pretty chestnut. She didn't look quite as chestnut as the colt from this thread though.

I'm sticking with bay. I'm not surprised to see red legs in the foal photo, and we can't see the mane or forelock in it either. I strongly suspect this could just be wild bay at work. There are young shots that the tail looks really black. I tell you, if I didn't know, I'd really suspect silver. Most of the bay silvers I've seen in foal photos looked every bit chestnut.

I have photos of a buckskin stallion who was born looking completely palomino... but he's a mini so *shrug*.

One problem with genetic testing...the person who orders the testing really needs to understand how genetics works. I read on another place where someone is insisting that the black foal has chestnut parents. And that the chestnut parents are DNA tested as Ee. And that this person does know what both a black and a chestnut look like, and these parents are definitely chestnut, despite testing out as black... :BH

I sometimes think my monitor is in another dimension to most of the rest of the world.
That colt is Bay, he has always looked Bay.
Did the "buckskin" test as Buckskin or are they just going by what he looks like now, as somewhere on the old forum we had pictures of a tested Palomino who looked like that......
