Chestnut???

Would you say the color description is correct? Dark legs and even dark ear tips say bay to me... https://www.blm.gov/adoptahorse/horse.php?horse_id=4234" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yeah that's a bay horses alright, I don't think some people pay that much attention to color correctness :roll:

I am not convinced this is a bay...I noticed that the dark legs (looks more chocolatey to me and not true black) does NOT go all the way to the hoof (much like my Valley) and the ear tips appears to be due to shadow and not actual color (zoomed in to over 400% to check this one out)...again like my sooty dark chestnut mare...here is are some pixs of her to use in comparison (she is ee/aa).

Day after Delight was born...see how dark her ear rims and tips are? It is all shadow and sooty (see her 2 yr old pixs). You can't see her legs but they are very sooty down to her "red hoof rims" and she is often mistaken for a bay by a lot of people including vets. As soon as I can get new pixs and get them downloaded, I will update these.

Definitely bay. The points ARE black, and it does go all the way down. Very obvious when you see the full size pictures.

I think the color listing is just a mistake. If it's an extreme case of sooty on chestnut, I would question how they even figured it out. I can't see them making such fine distinctions in color.

Well, you do have a point there, and we know that different monitors see colors differently, so I may very well be wrong...mia culpa...and You are so right about BMI not making the distinction between colors (heck, black, bay and chestnut are a stretch for them most of the time... =)) )

I am just shocked they didn't call this one a dun... :))
