So what is up with that horse, I saw him mentioned here in passing, but nothing was presented to compare to. They claim it to be a new gene, and that it's dominate so his foals should pass it on, however there are no foals on his website. Whats the deal? Do we just have another halter owner talking out the rear, or is something going on here? http://www.platinumstallion.com/Index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you search the forum for "platinum', you'll find threads where he's been discussed before.

Yeah I found a few posts in passing. Nothing that really told me anything. Someone had mentioned they've seen black paints like this before, but didn't post any photos to compare to. I'm pretty sure I've seen something like it before with apps, just the way white works. I mean if you can have sooty concentrated in the mane and tail only, why not what ever his white pattern is.

Him being born 'bay' isn't uncommon. I've seen black foals be born like that many times.

The old threads discussing him were on the old forum.

He only has two foals and was then gelded due to lack of interest. One foal is colored just like him according to his owner but I haven't seen a photo yet.

According to that breeder, it silvers out the mane and tails of black and bay horses. They say he got it from his dam, who is just slightly flaxen looking. He'd tested negative for silver, and I think someone said negativity for Sb1?

Yes he is very attractive. I like him alot. I do wish they'd had enough interest not to geld him.

They're theory is that platinum works exactly like silver. Really it would just be a a different silver mutation. I can't say whether I believe it or not. The horse IS interesting and if he DID pass it to a foal, there could be some merit to the theory. I hope they plan to keep some hair from him indefinitely in the event a similar new mutation is ever discovered.

They insisted he was silver for ages, even after a negative test, then they said he was a new sort of silver. If they'd tried promoting him as simply a nice horse and ignored his silver mane they might have a actually got somewhere with him as a sire I reckon. But they were just so caught up in his silver tail.

Similar I suppose to the bay I put pictures of? Could be just another KIT mutation? There's is probably hundreds of them, so as much as his tail looked cool, I'm not sure is being a rare new dilution would be accurate, in as much as various unexplained white effects on horses happen quite a bit? Lots of weird modifications are probably rare, but we don't give them all new separate names and promote them as selling points.

If It had just been his tail I wouldn't have looked twice, but the mane is just as pale. I've not seen one quite like him.
