Re: Brindle Miniature

Oh wow, that is an amazing mini :flower I bet that is one foal that won't be for sale anytime soon... :laugh1 I am so glad her owner will be contacting UC Davis for testing and I suspect they will be interested in this little lady.

I am also glad that the owner has been doing her genetic homework and had the fortitude to keep looking even after several sites claimed that all brindles where chrimeric (as we know that isn't true - some brindles can and do produce brindles).

Re: Brindle Miniature

I was asked to post these pictures here. Not sure if they will come up or not as I am new to this forum.

I shaved this Mini filly down today and she just blew me away when I saw what was underneath her baby coat.

I think she may be the very first brindle Miiature horse.

She looks awesome! I wonder if you'll have to send in hair samples from each group of different colored hair on her body?

Re: Brindle Miniature

Actually, her sire is a buckskin her dam a red roan.

She has the dilute eyes of a dilute and her baby color was buckskin. Shaved down, the stripes are more of a brown (smokey black) as is her mane and tail (which I also think may have some stripes in it, for sure her tail does). The lighter colors are more of a buttermilk buckskin color. One side is dark stripes on light coat color and the other side is light stripes with a darker coat color.

Your new baby is just beautiful and obviously rather unusal (in a GREAT way).
I look forward to more pics and updates!

Re: Brindle Miniature

I just love this little lady - :love She sure is a "once in a lifetime" foal and dispite RF's opinion that there aren't many things that can be deamed "rare" nowadays, I, imho, think she qualifies. :flower Does she have a name?
Welcome to the forum Riverdance :newbie . We are looking forward to future post, especially dealing with this little gem.

Re: Brindle Miniature

I think a non-chimeric, Brindle Miniature does qualify as "rare" actually!!
We have had a couple before on Lil Beginnings, I know, but it was a few years back and we never did find out if they were chimeric or not...it was before testing.

i miss lil beginings.... i don't go on there anymore, i'm almost afraid to hear news on splash, it's been so long since Gini took her for me and I haven't heard any word on her since they moved her to CA....

but onto this bub, she's ADORABLE! Can I keep her?

Re: Brindle Miniature

Krickette if Gini has her she will be fine, you should go and ask.
No, you cannot have her, it looks as if she will be the first Mini to be registered as Brindle, which is hardly fair of them, really, the other people should go and bang on AMHA's door and demand justice for their horses :laugh1
I know in order to get AMHA to actually use the correct terms you do have to really REALLY put your foot down.
It took me three goes of sending his papers back to get Red Dun on Rabbits papers, they wanted to call him Sorrel, then Roan (!) . I also got them to put his pedigree down, in spite of the fact that it was against their policy as his parents were not registered with them, but if you shout loud enough you get things done, as Joshua found long, long ago!!

Re: Brindle Miniature

Hey guys I am back. This is what I have so far. She could perhaps be a chimera (where two embryos fuzed together to make one horse, very very rare) we will need to do lots of tests to find out. She could be a roan/non roan chimera. Or, she is a brindle. Or just a roan whos markings went nuts (all this according to Dr. Phillip Sponenberg a Genetic specialist who wrote a book on color genetics).

I am still waiting for a Dr. Cecilia Penedo fo the University of California Davis to contact me. (She is away this week). She did a study on a Quarter horse who they decided was a chimera brindle.

Re: Brindle Miniature

I spoke to Cecilia Penedo of the University of California Davis today. She is a genetisist, specializing in chimera and brindle coloring in horsese. She feels that the filly is definatly a chirmera brindle. We are going to pull mane hairs from all the colors in her mane as well as draw blood.

Re: Brindle Miniature

Here is to hoping she is NOT a chrimeric brindle - a natural brindle that can pass the pattern on would be ssssoooo much better :love

Maybe Horsegen and keep us all posted on the brindle pattern research (even if it isn't her area - lol). :toast

Re: Brindle Miniature

Actually, I was told that the brindle pattern has not been found in a gene for horses yet and that most brindles can not reproduce themselves.
