thanks! everything seems good though. the week stay in the hospital is just standard in japan, then they'll be staying with her parents, so they'll have plenty of help. He's also as big as all the other babies, I think he was just "done" and ready to come. :rofl

my dad was joking a bit ago that he wasn't technically born yet since he was born at 5:43 pm on May 17

Congrats! How does your (very American sounding) dad feel about the name of his new grandson?
Will it be something like: "Kotaro Smith...get your butt over here"? :angel

Don't my brother married a Chinese girl and they have a son...Elijah Ming Ming......he's adorable but I can see him getting into trouble at school !!!! :hammer

lol! Dad thinks it's great, we're a rather international family. He actually grew up in Hawaii and spent some time in Japan as a kid himself. :D Kotaro is 1/2 japanese and 1/4 cuban  I think if they are going to stay there for any length of time it's better for him to have at least a japanese first name. My brother's daughter with his previous wife is 4 years old has a completely american name and looks it too but doesn't speak english. :rofl

congrats!

one of my stepmom's nephews was born and lived in Hawaii for the first 8 or so years of his life..has a Hawaiian name...if i can spell it.. 'Akahi? or something like that (Ah-Kah-He is what it sounds like)...and now he is living in good ol' Southern Ohio..haha. But the name really suits him.

Children don't know if a name is unusual unless adults tell them. Portland is a very multicultural city so to a pre-schooler around here Sohail and Saroya don't sound much different than Jacob and Emma. People told me I would have trouble with my son's name (Pascal) but no one has given it a second thought and no, he's never been beaten up. :)

Somehow I think my half-Filipino 'nephew' (what do you call the sprogs of a cousin?) carrying a traditional "English" name, living in Alaska is gonna realise there's a bit of difference between his looks and his name. LOL Only child fully named after my father, too, and not a lick of red hair in sight! Cousin was 'reverse-named' after my father, and he's a red-head too.

I love unique names...heck, in my graduating high school class of 99 people..I was one of three girls named Heather..and at my job there were three of us in there named Heather, and two Amy's out of like...10 employees...and both Amy's had the same last name (sister in laws). It got confusing when the boss would work a couple of heathers and both amy's with one other person...or one person with the three Heathers. Although I think my boss somewhat did it on purpose...(his daughter and DIL were the Amy's)

How'd I miss Pascal?

I love names in general...

Lol Heather! I just spent a week in CO with family. My uncle (dad's brother) is named Chris. My cousin (dad's sister's son) is also named Chris. That was fun. :rofl It was fine when cousin Chris lived in Boston but now they're in the same state. :hammer

Also about names, in this information age think carefully before giving your child an androgynous name. At times it is fun but every time I get a call from a potential client it takes a few seconds to convince them that I am in fact who they are calling. Even one of my mentors, I had emailed before going down to Texas and he was laughing at himself when I called him on the phone after the email because he'd thought I was a guy. :?

I have two Uncle John's (different sides of the family though) and the one on my dad's side has a son named John...and then his other son named his first born John...so it's John, Johnny and Jonathan when we all get together..LOL

Tianateke Thu, 05/27/2010 - 15:26

Hey NZA, if that cousin spore of yours is horsey at all, I can hook him up with a very community oriented barn!

Ya' know, I have no idea?!?! Robbie moved from the US to the Philippines to Alaska, with nary a stop in the Northeast...as he was busy breeding up his own football team (I think complete with second string!!), after the moved to Alaska, he didn't have the money to bring the whole family back to the NE area for a visit, then I moved to Florida, and then here. I've not actually met this namesake of my father's. Last I heard he was around 6 or 7 kids (or more).

I have to laugh...my dad's sister had one kid, my dad had 2, and his brother had 5. I'm not sure where my uncle got the idea he had to have so many, unless it was to make up for my mom's side of the family, since my brother and I are the only "kids" on that branch (4 siblings and only 2 grandkids).
