Arabian Stallion in Training
So, a poster I know on another board has a very special young stallion that she just sent out for training to Los Acres http://www.losacres.com/. She bought him from a breeder who has been in business for 50 years and specializes in old lines that are hard to find. He doesn't advertise and rarely sells anything. Dantastik was the first representative I had ever seen of his breeding program, and I had never seen anything quite like him before. Joao Serra Coelho trains the Los Acres stallion in the art of Marialva, which is classical bullriding in the Portuguese style (the bull doesn't die). Joao Serra Coelho also put training on Rushan, the Arabian stallion who fronts our "Chestnut" album in the gallery.

Re: Arabian Stallion in Training

Dan is "old blood" and he is deliberately inbred/linebred for a certain look. His breeder favors extreme type in the head, with huge jowls and eyes on his stock. His breeding is interesting because it focuses on lines from famous programs which disappeared long ago - http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/dantastik"

Rushan is a much different type of horse. He was bred in Britain and he is the only purebred in history to take home the supreme championship at the British Nationals. He won it, as a yearling, against 2000+ other purebred, anglo, and partbred Arabian horses. When his breeders were dispersing stock, apparently a 6 figure amount was offered for Rushan by the Middle East, but they turned it down. Instead, they sold him to Garianne Dill-Marlowe, a pedigree expert and historian for Arabian horses. They felt he would be appreciated with her. She imported him and stands him at stud, and he is currently being leased by Brookville Arabians - http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/rushan"

They are both beautiful but to me the Chestnut has it as an arabian, the bay is stunning though and I like the fact the man riding the chestnut has light hands in some of the pics.

Oh I like the bloodlines on the first horses as well, really line bred Raffles/Skowronek. I love his head this big jowel/eyes and small muzzle (somthing I like to see in my QH's as well). How tall is he, is he a small horse being that he has the strong Raffles lines?

Re: Arabian Stallion in Training

Hi everyone, I own Dan, the black bay. I appreciate that he has been shared here along with a gorgeous stallion *Rushan. *Rushan is just an incredible stallion!!

Dan is old world breeding, 31% Skowronek if I remember correctly, around 25% Ferzon. He is extremely linebred, even inbred as his inbreeding coefficient is very high (29%). This should make him extremely prepotent for passing on his traits for better or for worse.

Dan is 14.2 hands so your question was really a good one. The stallion he is most inbred to Gai Danizon was 15.1 however and his dam was 15.0 and sire also 15.0. My belief is Dan is shorter due to suppression from the inbreeding. I could be wrong but its just my guess as the horses in his pedigree in the last 3 to 4 generations are all quite big for arabians.

I would like to share a photo of Dan's face and one other of him under saddle, just 45 days by the way :) By the way, Dan is not at public stud , just for my own personal herd sire use. I hope you enjoy more photos! I love him and he is my little bit of the past brought to life in the present . It is not easy to find a horse 31% Skowronek blood these days. Including a photo of Skowronek.

This is the stallion that Dan carries 31% of his blood, Skowronek, and then some more photos of Dan, love your forum, will poke around!

I saw these %'s on allbreeds, Raffles and Skowronek I know, but I'm not as familiar with Gai Danizon who looks like he's high % Skowronek and his decendents as well. Anybody got a pic of Gai Danizon?

I do have a few, here you go :) Also, I guess in our arab world terms it would be as if you had a stallion with 31% the blood of say Poco Bueno :)

Re: Arabian Stallion in Training

Hi, your forum is behaving oddly for me. First (and not complaining just listing the issues) I did post some other photos that went up but I had to edit a statement I made that was slightly off (% of blood) and now those photos are not showing for me anymore nor is the post.

Then I keep refreshing but not seeing things I used to see.

Perhaps I'll try a new browser and see if that helps this. Thank you Maigray for inviting me. Do you keep people on moderated for quite a while? Just asking as also each post is moderated and that is fine, just wanting to know :)

Hi Heather, it's me again. I'm sorry I forgot to warn you, the first 2 posts of any new poster have to be approved by the moderators. That is why your posts and pictures seem to be "disappearing!" We were being hit by lots of spam posters, so the requirement was put in to try and weed them out. Everything you posted is up and you should be unhindered from now on. Post away!

He is fun to look at. Neat that someone still breeds the old style arabs! They are almost entirely a different breed aren't they - I mean the newer "type" compared to old "typey" - you know? SO different. I don't recall ever even seeing a horse like Dan.

My belief is Dan is shorter due to suppression from the inbreeding.

You're not alone in that belief...I see it in other breeds where heavy in/line breeding is done, and have that belief myself.

Re: Arabian Stallion in Training

Yes they are almost a different breed to the newer styles of arabs, this is really true....

The interesting thing will be when I outcross Dan to the newer lines and styles, I do have a mare who is mostly modern breeding (comparitevely speaking anyway) She is Huck and Fame VF and looks every bit of her pedigree. She is around 15h but makes SUPER tall babies, her last foal is over 15h as a long yearling, almost had me worried with how fast he was growing!! I have seen 2 of her foals with modern style stallions so bred to Dan will be truly interesting.

It will either be a stunning wonderful success or unremarkable, it is so hard to say but I will try.

You guys are right, other than at McNeil Arabian Farm in Alpine, CA and perhaps a couple other scatterings of old style breeders you will not find these types of arabians anymore. One of Petes filly's might show in Vegas this year, it would be so exciting!! The old world coming to the new perhaps.
She is super smooth, typey like Dan (and of his body style) but just a bit larger, maybe 15h. Also a remarkable liver chestnut (almost chocolate) with that beautiful flaming mane and tail...I can post pictures if anyone is interested.

I think it is worth preserving them as they are solid, sweet and very pretty!!

Thank you for your compliment that you like Dan better than his grandsire , that is an honor.

And a mare that is a mix of Pete McNeils older lines and some newer style outcrosses he did, she will be bred to Dan in 2012
IMAGE(http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b194/Rastaah/Bellatrot.jpg)

And that filly that may show in Vegas, almost exact pedigree as my Dan but taller mare :) (the genetics in her case lined up without the suppression of height, her sire , like Dan , is very inbred and is around 14.1, barely) This filly is 15h

Lord, I lusted after that liver chestnut when she was for sale. Alas, I am booked up. Is the grey Bella? You should post more of her, she is incredibly typey also, but so different in look than the modern style horses.

It's the whole backend is so much more.... the pelvic area.... it's longer and smoother? The nicer pelvic angle and whole rear quarter area? Better legs? Not so tubey and bony looking? Don't know exactly.... The bone on the grey mare is substantial! I gotta stop staring here. But look at her front legs....proportionate cannons - That's it- they have substance?! I mean....that's the word for it.

I really like the old style Arabs you are posting. I will admit that I am not a huge fan of Arabs (I like TWH, drafts and cobs so you can imagine my tastes are a bit different), but the ones on this thread I could totally imagine having in my backyard :D

Re: Arabian Stallion in Training

I'm glad you guys are enjoying them, Pete McNeil has spent 50 years working on them :) The bay mare is newer breeding, not sure if you could see the difference. The grey mare is a mix of the old stuff like Dan and the liver chestnut but with a spattering of Cal O Bask and then a stallion of another old type of lines called SHF Southern Whiz :)

I agree on the pelvis and hind end, that liver has a booty like no other LOL. Maigray, she may be the one showing in Vegas, still trying to get a confirmation on that.

Monsterpony, glad you like these guys enough to have one lol....Dan is also a horse who takes whatever you throw at him and as they say makes lemonaide from lemons. Just a good boy.
