7 surprises. (pics)
Well, not really. We knew they were coming. ;) Those from the main forum probably remember about the question I had asked about the mismate shot towards the end of December. My (then) 7 month old Border Collie bitch had tied (with another Border Collie--a future planned breeding) but we ended up deciding against aborting the pregnancy for different reasons through the mismate shot or the lutalyse series. So here they are! Slick (mom) is doing fantastic and is a very natural mother. The pups are all very healthy and of course adorable. We had 7 black and whites born on 3/2/09 at 8 p.m. (they were due 3/3). There are 5 boys and 2 girls. Slick being a good girl. IMAGE(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v448/pacata42/twincreeks/bordercollies/slick%20litter%20Mar%202%2009/febandmarch09194.jpg) All the pups nursing. IMAGE(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v448/pacata42/twincreeks/bordercollies/slick%20litter%20Mar%202%2009/febandmarch09202.jpg) For those who object to our decision, we have no regrets. Other than we wish it wouldn't of happened in the first place... :hammer

Nice puppies.
You are very lucky to have got away with it...as I said at the time it is not something I would have done.
I think also you are going to find the market has shrunk quite considerably, I was considering getting a Min Schnauzer but I am shelving the idea as a litter advertised locally, normally selling for £600.00 dropped the price and STILL has all the puppies!!!
I think Collies will probably stay popular as for some reason people seem to think they come ready trained (Oh YES...Dog trainer here, I was, seriously, told this by a woman in my puppy class...there was no need to correct her puppy's behaviour as it would grow up and just naturally do what she wanted!!!!) but just keep an eye on the market place...it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better!

Re: 7 surprises. (pics)

A Parelli trainer I used to share a barn with told one of my students that Tennessee Walkers don't need to be trained -- you just get on and ride them. This "trainer" was always trying to steal my students but luckily only one middle-aged mom rider was gullible enough to fall for it.

Oh, and the TWH lesson horse that had just been pulled out of the field after being a broodmare only for years... bucked some kid off. Tackless. In the round pen. 'Cause that's what a Parelli lesson is all about.

Wow, I digressed.

Re: 7 surprises. (pics)

I believe our stallion was "parellied"...everytime I accidently do something that falls into a parelli-type movement, he wigs out. Needless to say, I am "enthralled" (NOT!) with all things parelli... :hammer

On another note, the gal who is bringing us the older mare has been trying to do parelli with a son of our stallion--she had called us for help in understanding the mindset of this bloodline, since we have a fair dose of it in our own herd. Her complaint--after a time or two of doing one of the parelli games, he starts to ignore her, refuses to engage in the game, etc., and looks at her like he's bored silly. :laugh1 Gotta love smart horses.
