3yr old cat developes white patch

have you any idea what has caused this? I rehomed a stray half grown kitten 3 years ago , this summer she has grown a patch of white hairs ,she is a house cat and has no access to the outside , Ive asked her to get a better pic

That is cool looking but I haven't a clue what could cause it. The first things that comes to mind is scarring from a skin infection... Perhaps a somatic mutation that was present at birth but acted something like gray does in horses? It would be interesting to keep a watch on it and see if it progresses.
