Forums

Mintie (perlino pony) and Aussie (black tobero) are proud to announce the arrival of their new foal...a gorgeous buckskin tobiano colt, with a sparkling blue eye. He arrived on the 31st Oct, thus will be named Tanami Trick Or Treat, but still dont have a stable name...any suggestions?? He is gorgeous :love and with that face white, I say he's more than just tobi (he looks splashy to me) making him a tovero just like his mommy (sorry RF, don't beat me :hammer , I know using that term is a pet peeve, but tanami is new so I am using terms she is familiar with  ).

As for a barn name - how about Spooky? or Warlock? or Casper? or Goblin?

For a barn name, please forgive me because I know this will sound syrup-y sweet, I would call him: "Boo".
Well he IS almost 'Pumpkin' coloured !!!!....congrats he's lovely.
Oh no! Hubby kept trying to call Ebony "Pumpkin Patch" cuz she was born on the 30th...thankfully I wore him down. "Pumpkin" is for a fat shaggy Thelwell sort of pony.

Hi all

Little foal has a name now..'Frankie' not very Halloweeny - unless you count Frankenstein!! Mum named him while she was out playing with him today (i was at work). She said the blue eye reminded her of Frank Sinatra, who was nick named 'old blue eyes'. Lil Frank's mum is just a plain Perlino, no patches. His dad is the colour provider...i have added a pic below of him. Sorry for the ignorance, but what is 'splash'?? I have had a look at this sites genetics etc, but dont really understand how to pick it out.

Splash (or splashed) White (splash) is another white patterning gene, which makes it look like the horse has either walked thru' a puddle of white paint and "splashed" it upwards...it comes in varying degrees of expression, but one sign of splash can be blue/partial blue eye(s). Face white tends to be 'lopsided' (more on one side than the other, or bottom heavy), and in larger expressions, will 'wrap' around the nostrils/eyes, given a chance. Sabino and splash, on the other hand, "fight" as sabino does not seem to like covering the eyes.

http://www.equine-color.info/v/white/sp…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; show some examples of splash--we don't seem to have an example of the "paint-pot" socks of a splash...those are pretty much a "straight" line sock, which encircles the leg, without having a point, again looking like the horse stepped into a paint pot.

Hi all,

Thank you for all the lovely compliments...as of today, he will have a new home to go to at weaning. An awesome show/stud home. I have another person coming out to see that other baby (Rebel) next weekend.

Aww congrats, he's gorgeous!

Tanami, is that as in the Tanami Desert? Are you in that area? I only ask as I've read up a bit on Waler history in the past, including Newhaven Walers which were from the Newhaven station in the Tanami Desert area.

Tanami Sun, 11/15/2009 - 01:31

Yes, in fact it is after the Tanami Desert....but no, I dont live anywhere near there. I just really liked the name, so went with it :)

Dilutes Sun, 11/15/2009 - 08:12

Yes it is a nice name :D . Hehe we were considering using it as a prefix but we won't now

Tanami, ss it took so long to get back on here to reply as to why I think your boy looks "splashy" to me. His face white is a bit to one side and runs down his muzzle and over his lips, and where his color meets white on his legs is fairly straight across, unlike sabino which is more irregular in pattern. He is a very nice patterned foal :love ...you should be very proud of your baby... :flower
