Re: Hoping for grullo and champagne

We lost our stallion, Rawhide Whiz, so are hoping for some grullo foals by him and maybe even a champagne from our mare, Shesa Champagne Cody. Toni

Toni I was so sad when you said you had lost him. I cried for you it just made me sick he was on my list of future stallions for my homozygous gold champagne mare. She is bred to Cougarand San Bar for an early April gold champagne foal. I am sure you will have some beautiful foals this year and hope you get exactly what you wanted from your Rawhide Whiz breedings.

We lost our stallion, Rawhide Whiz, so are hoping for some grullo foals by him and maybe even a champagne from our mare, Shesa Champagne Cody. We also have a grullo roan stallion, so can get fun colors from him.

A friend of mine has her mare here (bred to Rawhide Whiz) that is due to foal in a week or two. In the past, she's been very consistent at foaling within 2 days of 335, so we're hoping for April 4-6. Then we have 4 due shortly after that, and more in May/June.

Their web page is at http://www.grullablue.com/foals/foals09.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; if anyone wants to peek at the pairings.

Toni

I'm so sorry!! He too was on my list as a future stud for my dun mare when she's old enough. He was so beautiful!! Can't wait to see your foals!!

Re: 2009 Foals

Hi Diane, he just takes him job SO seriously that he does not relax a lot of the time, he would be so much calmer if he were gelded, I am actually looking in to AI for him before he is gelded.

Ahhh. Ace does tend to be "on toes" when there's something going on (i.e., mares being moved), but he chills the rest of the time. Frozen semen is a good thing, but make sure you get a good collection station AND good AI tech when it comes time to inseminate--I read somewhere that more than 50% of the 'failures' in getting mares preggers comes from faulty handling by the AI tech (thawing, etc.).

My therio professor was just talking about how nearly 60% of shipped semen nevers sees a veterinarian, which results in a lot of problems with quality.

Now that's scary! I know the hubby has visions of setting up our own little laboratory, but I'm very happy with utlising our vet.

Re: 2009 Foals

So anyone's mares getting close? Silo is due on the 10th, but will probably go over. Her bag is getting bigger, but no milk. Her tail head is relaxing, but I'm not sure how relaxed a maiden gets. She is VERY wide and the foal hasn't dropped down yet. I love MareStare and am so happy I can watch at work and home and not worry if I'm missing it!

So who is getting close?

pfft. We're not looking anywhere near close. Rosalynn, however, is waxing. I think she's trying to show Isabelle what to do.

I'm betting Tiger Lily will go first. Where's Angela?

Re: 2009 Foals

Yeah, your mare looked ready months ago! she's huge!!

I've heard that if a mare gets ill during her pregnancy it can delay the development of her foal and cause her to go well over her date. I'm suspicious that this is going on with Isabelle because of that injury she had because she does not look at all like a term mare. No relaxation of tail head or vulva, no bag at all. She's just pleasantly round as opposed to the way she usually looks like a racehorse all the time. (Even though she's an Oldenburg...)
