Mystic Warrior, the Appy Friesian
Is here at the KHP for WEG! His stall is practically behind mine :) I got some not great pics of him in his stall I will share when I get a chance to use my laptop vs my phone, and will attempt to get pics of him out of the stall before WEG is over. The spots on his neck/head are practically gone, but still has them on his body.

Re: Mystic Warrior, the Appy Friesian

The good news is that I caught his performance today and got tons of pics with my camera, the bad news is my aircard isn't getting a signal at the house we're staying at so I probably can't share until we're home next week.

Today I caught Dianne Olds Rossi's performance, so I got a lot of photos of Fire Magic, her red Friesian. He was gelded three months ago!

Re: Mystic Warrior, the Appy Friesian

His registered name is Ramon aka Romeo. Dianne and Alainna used to work closely with my dad. Romeo was in training with my dad before Dianne took him since dad worked exclusively with the Melotts. Dianne uses shock collars to train her young horses for these "liberty" movements. We ended up losing our friendship with the Melotts over Dianne and Alainna. Pity cause Anita and her family were great friends...

Re: Mystic Warrior, the Appy Friesian

Yes. If you see photos of her, occassionally, she will have breast collars on her horses. You can see it when they perform, when she cues them, they lay their ears back.

How awful! Obviously more interested in money than the horses! As I do a lot of liberty I was interested when I saw an invite on facebook...

What colour is Mystic Warrior these days? I remember when he was born, and the discussion of his dam having grey.

Re: Mystic Warrior, the Appy Friesian

Full spotted leopard. But because of the overproduction of pigment caused by his gray allele during development the spots created "cat tracks" running into each other. It looks very neat but, because of gray, won't last.

Yeh that's what he was like as a foal, but what does he look like now? Or has grey not had much effect yet?

This is him. He looks a lot like his mother when she had him.

Huh, I thought fresians weren't allowed to be cross bred or am I totally missing something and this horse is some kind of funky purebred? And gray?

Somebody explain! I've never heard about this before :)

Re: Mystic Warrior, the Appy Friesian

Friesian crosses are the new thing. Pardon, Friesian "sport horses." Some are really nice and others not so much, like with any cross. Grande Design is another very pretty appy/friesian cross.

Some are being created as a throw back to colorful baroque horses in the days before Lp, pinto and any kind of dilute where considered obscene and common to the upper classes (when they used to be quite favored). The good ol' days when Lipizzans had spots cream and *gasp* dun! (It was too much and made the ladies faint so it had to be abolished you understand? :? ;-) )

I have pics of Friesians crossed with appys, pintos, classic roan, a gray friesian/arabian mix, a fjord cross and even a Friesian mule :P They get around.

Re: Mystic Warrior, the Appy Friesan

There is no law that says any horse cannot be crossed with any other horse.
If you do this cross with certain breeds (are Haflingers still sacrosanct??) then the society will refuse to register subsequent foals but since it is the Mother Stud Book and in the country of origin, it has no real sway over stud books in other countries. I think it is a throw back to cross miscegenation, when they believed that if you bred a non purebred from a female the subsequent offspring could be affected. It is in direct conflict with European Law, and, if challenged, would be thrown out. You cannot refuse to register the offspring of two registered parents, not even if you are the Queen of England and still think your Corgi's should have their tails cut off, as her daughter found out the hard way!!

So many times cool and interesting colors are born only to gray out. It's one of those horse color curses.

Great pictures Chey Aut!

Oh it's funny. Due to my work sched, hubby and I flew in later than the rest of the team. Beforei got a chance to see him, my friend (who knows I love appies and Friesians) told me there was an appy/Friesian on the other side of our stalls. I immediately knew it HAD to be him :)

Yeah, that's what I meant! LOL How greyed out has he become as I haven't seen any photos of him in a long time.
