Pattern???

OK, I intend to test as I need to know base colour anyway, BUT.....Dam is Buckskin Pinto as shown. Sire is described as (by me, btw) Max Sabino and I have registered foal as Max Sabino I do not have permission to upload sire pictures (I have not asked) but he is the same colour as the foal except he has two blue eyes with eye liner and the foal has one blue with eye liner and one brown with partial liner.   Question is really, what other patterns should I test for? Sabino is pretty well pointless and obviously present, dW is so far not really known in Minis, Frame is not there in breeding (but I shall test anyway) This foal is my worst nightmare for showing! At the moment he is a nifty mud brown, but I could not be more pleased with him if I tried, I wish his sire lived near enough to warrant talking his lovely owner into letting me do the breeding again!! So, what do you think is going on?? What should I test for apart form base colour?

Are those spots in his flank color spots and the rest of him white? I think I also see color inside the ears and in the tail?

You could test for Tobiano, frame, and SB1.  The splashed white patterns that are testable sw1, sw2, sw3.  If you feel adventurous and want to send a sample to Australia there is a lab there that tests for W20 which I think might be useful.  http://www.practicalhorsegenetics.com.a…

If he is a true "max sabino" then he should be homozygous for SB1.  However, it could very well be multiple patterns resulting in an nearly white. I think it might be a good idea to test him first for SB1 and frame (just to be safe).  If he tests homozygous for SB1 then you have your answer.  If he tests as negative or heterozgyous you can test for the others.

He looks like a nice foal.  I don't' envy you keeping him clean =)

Yes, he had some speckles of colour on the inside of both flanks (it has gone now) and he had browny colouring inside both ears (so I knew he was not deaf, thank goodness!) And there was a line of colour down the front of his neck- filling in his passport diagram was an absolute HOOT I can tell you!!. I have to test for base colour as I need to know, same with Frame. I had assumed Tobi, but if the multiple test offer is still going with Animal Genetics I will just test for everything. The sires breeder is no good with colours or patterns (I bought Carlos form them and had NO idea his dam was Pintaloosa! That was a bit of a surprise...)  I know his grandsire on sire's side was Tobi + Splash, I do not know dams colouring......and, since this is the AMHA we are dealing with there is NO chance of the colours on the papers being accurate. They will register him as "white" but at least we have got them to the point where they WILL put the genetic colour on the papers when it is tested, and the pattern....
