She is a very pretty filly. I have absolutely NO idea why the trainer is doing all the weird stuff he is doing, she is certainly very long suffering and very forgiving. Once she has actually started doing proper training she should make a really nice saddle horse.
If she were being worked under saddle, plenty of gentle jogging, I think you will find the front half will start to muscle up nicely and fit with the rest of her.
Of course, were you to breed her, it is more than likely she would have "normal" sized foals. We are discussing QH sizes (well, any breed actually) on another thread somewhere.....can't remember where....

Oh yes, I am very much hoping that she will be a great trail horse. Possibly a bit of a pack horse. I live in Alaska and if we can get her up here it would be great to be able to get her camping and hunting!
That's what I was thinking about her size. She's only that small because of environmental reasons but by her genetics she should be much bigger. I don't mind her being smaller though, not as far to fall! :grin: I trained ponies for a couple of years and my favorites were the 12hh ones!
I'll only breed her if she levels out and her foot can get reshaped. I guess that stuff could also be a result of the environmental factors but I wouldn't want to pass on any stuff like that if it could be genetic. Of course I am dreaming about what stallion I would use! Either an Arabian or a pony.

Well, we had a stallion, pure Crabbet, who stood 14.00hh shod up and on tiptoe- he was PERFECT.
He held the record at one time of having sired the biggest purebred in the UK- the gelding was 16.2hh o/o a 15.00hh mare.
For a first foal we would always use the 7/8 Arab stallion, even though he was 15.2hh as he could be relied on to throw small fine foals- they grew, but Rabidan sired a foal from my mare who was the biggest I had got out of her alive, he was SO big we just stood and looked at him, no way we could even carry him up the field! We waited til he could walk.
By the PB stallion the same mare threw foals that grew to a normal 15.2hh but that I could carry in (the mare would only foal outside) on my own. The mare was 14.2hh which I believe to be the ideal size for an Arab.
I hope you get your mare home soon, she is just the sort I like and she has colour to boot!

I have liked this guy for a long time...though I would prefer a black based stud just because I like bays personally. But he sure is handsome and if I had the opportunity to breed him to my girl I wouldn't say no.

I just dream up matches for her all the time! Won't happen for several years at least though.

Oh and she has been walk, trot, cantering under saddle and has no problem carrying her trainer. He reports that she LOVES to run!

Go for the Welsh. Don't like the Paint and he is too heavy, anyway, for your mare- he could throw a foal she could not pass, it isn't size, as I know form the Minis, it's weight that counts.
I don't like the foals the Chestnut throws and I really have NO interest on ruining my horses hind legs by making it do sliding stops, IME Arabians can pretty much do that without you actually training them to do so!!!
I love the Welsh Pony, he does everything, he moves like a dream and he produces stock that consistently perform in all disciplines- neither of the other two can do that, nor have they won half the things the Welshie has, he is a true all rounder, and he produces consistent foals, too, Yes, definitely the Welshman for me!!

Well, I just talked with the trainer today. He says he finally found a saddle that will actually fit her, though it's a little small for him. She is very narrow and his saddle (he has an appendix and an older...prolly QH) just wouldn't stay on top of her. She is doing really well with yielding and all that. She is very scared of balls (I guess they have a big exercise ball in the arena) and it took quite a while for her to go through the "cowboy curtain" which is a bunch of strips of heavy duty cloth like the old army tents or tarps that they have in the arena. But now that she figured it out she is good. He is going to start prepping her for a small (in barn) dressage show, just for the experience and to have a goal and time line to meet. He is also wanting to get her out of the arena and onto some trails. Apparently she has a very good mind and likes to take care of her rider...i.e. if he starts to get off balance going forward she will slow down. But he said she is also VERY sensitive to weight cues. Just the slightest shift and she respond, not spookily but like she thinks that's what you want. He said that he has heard reports from the turn out/in people that she seems to come into heat every time she's pastured next to geldings. He told me that he hasn't witnessed this himself but he will keep an eye on her.

I get to go see her in August for myself. Hopefully she'll be really good then. :grin: I have a feeling that if she stays as sensitive as she is she will never really be a horse for a beginner. I guess we'll see. I want to take a bunch of conformation shots of her when I go visit and Im seriously contemplating getting some testing done. I know she is Ee (Palomino sire, Bay Dam) and carries one cream. I would like to know if she is Aa or AA and I was also thinking about testing for Frame and Splash just because her face white goes over her lips onto her chin. She doesn't have much leg white. I don't think I need to worry about HYPP. I'm not sure about HERDA...I might test her (at some point) for CA and SCID since she has a lot of Arabian and I don't think her sire or dam have ever been tested. If anybody else has any thoughts about any of those tests I would welcome them. Also, what lines are CA and SCID mostly found in? Obviously if I don't breed her I don't really need to know about CA, SCID or HERDA.
