New Foal

Forums

We had a foal born at the farm, first one in about 8 years, to a chestnut mare and I'm pretty sure he is also chestnut. Mom thought he was dun and I just laughed as we don't even have a dun horse on the farm, but I think hes too red to be pally.

We are not sure if his sire is the buckskin QH who is Ee Aa or the bay tobi/frame paint who is Ee A_ with his T on his E. Sending off hair soon to get him parent verified so we can get him registered.

I think he has the cutest face markings and I believe he has at least one small sock but his legs are too pale to really tell at this point.
The pics are from one and 2 days old, he was born on the 15th.

My Smokey was born even paler than this (with not even a chance at being cream) and is a fairly light chestnut now. He does get quite the dorsal and leg barring in the summer though, but you can tell it is clearly just fading and counter shading.

Mailed the parent verification today, should see results in a few days, also getting our APHA stud splash tested, so I'm excited for those results.

Little baby matched our APHA stud so he is chestnut. This also means that our other two solid bred paint geldings (who are older) will also be getting registered this year, mom never paid to register them as they were also accidental and not flashy at all.

Here's a couple from 2 weeks old or so that I thought I posted earlier. My fear was that since he was pasture born and my parents are rather busy that he would not get handled as much and would be rather wild... but hes friendly as can be and very outgoing already. No issues with a halter either! (and I moved this thread to the appropriate forum since his color is no longer a mystery)

He has started to shed a little around his eyes and nose, and he is about a month old now and really filling in.

Well he is still so light that you really can't tell, probably won't be able to see anything until his legs shed. But he certainly does not have any high leg white.

Max finally shed out enough to tell that he definitely does have a white foot on the right front, though I didn't get any closeups of it. Not sure when he will be weaned yet, but he is going on 4 months.
