Patterns?

Anyone care to guess the patterns carried by this mare? He is a Black Pinto with blue eyes, sired by a Black Pinto and out of a "Gray" Pinto. This is this mare's dam: She is sired by a Black Pinto and out of a mare listed as Solid Bay.

Me too,I just see Tobiano, but she has the solid leg and the blue eyes in the background so there could be frame.

Tobiano + Splash, but knowing you you will test for Frame so no danger there!
The reason I am thinking this is the way that the white tries to go up the back- the Tobiano has pushed it to the rear and it is falling off the hind legs- very Splash affected by Tobiano, and you see it more typically within the pattern, like this

Very interesting theory, Jane. I like it. I can hardly wait until a test comes out for Splash to see if all our theories about it are correct.

Yeh I agree RF, I too think that's a splash thing.

Could the dam be a very very minimal tobiano too?

Ok, I have the results. You all know how I like to pose these tricky situations.

I tested for Black. I would love to have a horse homozygous for Black. You all know my record for getting Red foals from two Black parents. Results, E/e. Oh well.

I tested for LWO, just to be safe. Results, nn. I'm happy with that. I can safely breed her to my Frame stallion if I want. That solid leg does not equate to Frame in this case (although it is not entirely solid, there is a wee bit of white at the bottom). I have also seen a half brother to the dam with a similar "solid" leg who was negative for Frame.

I also tested for Tobiano. Would you believe TT? She is my ONLY homozygous mare. Her dam is definitely a minimally marked Tobiano, and not only that, but on her owners website she is listed as homozygous also.

That's just insane. That never seems to happen in big horses. *sigh*

It's incredible, isn't it?
That is the second minimally marked H/Z Tobi, Mini I have seen.....only I cannot, at the moment, remember where the other one is!

I posted the other one. It is located in Oklahoma City. This one a short ways out of OKC. You don't suppose it is something about the environment do you? :-J

That's so cool! Thanks for sharing her with us. :)
What's incredible that she is minimal and HZ?
I wish I could have this filly, it is Doc's 1/2 sister and she is HZ Tobiano, both her parents are HZ. She is pretty minimal don't you think?

I think she is referring to the dam with only two feet with a tiny bit of white on them being homozygous.

Songcatcher Sat, 11/20/2010 - 19:47
That is a homozygous tobiano?!
Yes.
